Formby residents to be turned away from the tip under new proposals

• Whether only Merseyside residents should have access. Especially applicable for areas like Formby which border on to Lancashire. Such proposals, already implemented in nearby Wigan borough, would require residents to show a proof of address in order to access the tip.

• Whether residents should be restricted to a certain number of visits a year. MRWA shared data which showed that more than 1,800 vehicles visited a tip more than 52 times last year, indicating that trade waste is being disposed of, rather than household items.

• A booking system for all vehicles, in order to manage demand and reduce traffic, hopefully preventing the all too common situation where cars queue down Altcar Road to the Mcdonald's roundabout. Merseyside would not be the first area to do this, with such systems already in place in Kent and Hampshire.

• The separation of recyclable and non recyclable waste, thereby increasing the amount of reused waste material, a key target for MRWA.
